Would You Rather Questions

90 questions ยท By Dima Tretyak, creator of DeepTalk ยท Updated

Would you rather is the easiest game there is: two options, no "it depends," and you have to defend your pick. The pick is rarely the interesting part. The reason behind it usually is.

The questions below are written for adults, couples and friends, not a classroom. They're grouped by mood, from silly to surprisingly deep, so you can keep a group chat going or turn a slow dinner into an actual conversation. Some come from the Would You Rather deck in the DeepTalk app, and the rest were written for this page.

How to use these questions

  • Make everyone pick before anyone explains. Hearing other answers first ruins it.
  • Always ask "why?" A one-word pick is just a vote; the reason is the conversation.
  • Mix the moods. Follow a deep one with something silly so it never feels like homework.
  • Let people write their own. The best rounds often come from a question someone invents on the spot.
  • Keep score if you like: whoever gives the most convincing defense picks the next question.

Frequently asked questions

What are good would you rather questions for adults?

The best ones for adults are about real trade-offs: money versus time, career versus location, comfort versus adventure. "Would you rather have your dream salary with a two-hour commute or half the salary working from home?" works because both answers are defensible.

What are some funny would you rather questions?

Funny ones pair two ridiculous but oddly specific situations, like "Would you rather sneeze every time someone says your name or hiccup every time you tell a lie?" The more everyday the setting, the harder people laugh.

How do you play would you rather with your partner?

Take turns asking, both answer before explaining, and use the couples section above for questions about the two of you. It works on a drive, over dinner or over text.

What's the hardest would you rather question?

The hardest ones have no clear winner, like "Would you rather lose ten years of your life or ten years of your memories?" Save those for when the group is ready for a longer discussion.
